Project Consultation - Planning Update
Project Status Update
The Manor Park Community Café and Studios project has now completed its planning stage. Planning permission for the originally proposed scheme was approved in 2024 following extensive community engagement and consultation.
Following this approval, the London Borough of Newham reviewed delivery options in response to significant increases in construction costs and delays to the construction programme. As a result, the originally proposed standalone building will no longer proceed.
The Council has instead agreed an updated delivery approach to bring an existing empty unit next to Manor Park Library back into use as a Community Café and Hub, ensuring the same social, cultural, and economic benefits originally envisaged through the co-design process can be delivered in a more sustainable way.
What Happens Next
An operator has already been appointed for the Community Café and Hub. Tiffinwalli C.I.C., a Newham-based social enterprise, will operate the space, delivering community-led food, training, and cultural programmes informed by the outcomes of the co-design process.
The Council will now work with Tiffinwalli to progress design development and interior fit-out of the space. Design and interior works are planned for 2026, with the Community Café and Hub expected to open in late 2026.
