Suzan Ipeklioglu1 year ago Clay Together will offer free pottery workshops to local residents of all ages. Delivered by a professional potter, the sessions will provide creative opportunities that improve mental health, reduce stress, and build stronger community connections.Residents will learn hand-building pottery techniques, with opportunities to showcase their creations in a final exhibition. The project will remove financial barriers, ensuring participation is accessible and inclusive.By bringing people together through creativity, this project will support health and wellbeing, encourage social cohesion, and leave a lasting legacy of skills and confidence in the community.

Afzal Ahmed1 year ago The Growth Project is about giving young people the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed in life and contribute positively to our community. Many young people leave school without knowing some of the everyday skills that really matter. This project will change that by offering a series of hands-on, engaging workshops designed to prepare them for the real world.Young people will learn useful life skills such as basic vehicle maintenance, DIY and home repairs, cooking healthy meals on a budget, money management, and first aid – the kind of knowledge that builds independence and confidence. They will also be introduced to modern creative and digital skills through basic coding and graphic design, opening doors to future careers. To support their journey into work and further education, we will run sessions on CV writing, interview practice, entrepreneurship, and public speaking. Alongside gaining skills, young people will build confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement.By voting for The Growth Project, you are helping local young people gain the tools they need to thrive, stay motivated, and give back to the community. Together, we can build a stronger, more capable, and inspired generation.

Me Abul Ahmed1 year ago Our DIY Workshop project has already benefitted local young people and families by providing opportunities to learn practical skills, improve wellbeing, and connect socially in a supportive environment. With the ongoing cost of living crisis putting increasing pressure on households, this project is more vital than ever. Learning to repair and reuse items not only helps families save money but also promotes independence, reduces waste, and provides a real sense of achievement. With additional funding, we will expand and enhance our workshop to reach more people and provide new opportunities. This will include three community Repair Cafés, where young people and families can learn how to fix broken household items instead of replacing them — keeping belongings in use for longer, cutting costs, and reducing environmental impact. We will also deliver an exciting “Make and Build an Electric Buggy” project, designed to inspire creativity, teamwork, and technical problem-solving. In addition, we will extend our DIY workshop beyond the youth zone to directly engage the wider community, making these opportunities more accessible and inclusive.

Krishna Kumar1 year ago HealthFirst, led by Sai Guru London, aligns with WellNewham’s mission, “Helping everyone in Newham to live well,” by advancing health equity in Newham’s diverse, deprived community. This fully funded project tackles health inequalities through an anti-racist, anti-poverty, and intersectional approach. Free health and wellbeing services will be provided via quarterly events at our Manor Park centre and regular mobile pop-ups across Manor Park wards. Offerings include free health screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, ECG), fitness and mindfulness sessions (yoga, meditation, Reiki, Pranic Healing), workshops (stress management, Sports, Taichi, gut health, sexual health, diabetes awareness), and expert talks on nutrition, cardiac health, and mental wellbeing. Community initiatives, like a Kids’ Corner with games and face painting, ensure inclusivity. Community consultations via questionnaires confirm strong local support. The project empowers residents to make informed health choices, reduces lifestyle-related risks, and fosters community bonds, enhancing physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

Kolsuma Miah1 year ago The youth led Sustainability Club have generated a proposal to support student mental health and wellbeing at Plashet Girls School, the environment and biodiversity by cultivating a vibrant green oasis in the school playground. The project is a total re-imagining of an unloved hard-surfaced patch of playground. We will transform this space into a sustainable, environmentally friendly sanctuary where students can unwind, study and connect with nature. The space will double up as an outdoor learning space and be packed with fruit trees and plants that will provide the canteen with an additional source of organic produce to be used in healthy and nutritious low cost meals. This project is an investment in our future. With the right funding, this living oasis and classroom will continue to grow, fostering health, well-being, learning, and community development for years to come.

Beverley Mohiuddin1 year ago The RenewALL Kitchen will be a welcoming space where Manor Park residents come together to cook, learn and connect. Led by a Community Chef, our classes will teach residents to turn everyday ingredients from surplus food collections and our community garden into delicious, budget-friendly, nutritious meals. Our project is about more than just cooking. It’s about empowering people to gain confidence, learn budget-friendly recipes helping them through the cost-of-living crisis, and earn accredited food hygiene certificates that open doors to employment and volunteering. By sharing food and cultural recipes, we’ll celebrate diversity, reduce isolation, and build community connections. Participants can go on to become volunteers who support our hot meals service, grow food in our garden, and lead future cooking sessions, learning new skills and taking ownership of the project. By supporting the RenewALL Kitchen, you’re backing a project that: · Tackles poor nutrition and loneliness · Boosts health and wellbeing · Promotes sustainability and food education · Builds community leadership and resilience

JOYCE MUIGAI1 year ago Lives Not Knives – Newham Young People Training InitiativeKnife crime continues to have a devastating impact on young people and communities in Newham. In the year to March 2023, there were 642 knife-crime incidents in the borough – the highest number recorded across London. Young men are particularly affected, either as direct victims, perpetrators, or peers who carry the burden of fear, trauma, and lost opportunities. Addressing this issue requires early intervention and positive engagement to prevent more lives from being cut short. The Lives Not Knives project will deliver a structured training and mentoring programme for young men aged 14–25 in Newham at Revival House Church. The programme will combine awareness-raising, life skills, and empowerment to support participants in making safer choices, developing confidence, and accessing opportunities away from crime. The training will cover: Awareness and Consequences: Workshops exploring what knife crime is, the legal implications of carrying or using knives, and the human cost through real-life stories of victims and families. Risk Factors and Decision Making: Practical sessions to help young men identify peer pressure, social exclusion, and other triggers, while building decision-making, de-escalation, and refusal skills. Alternatives and Empowerment: Mentoring and group activities focused on positive pathways such as sports, arts, volunteering, apprenticeships, and leadership. These sessions will help participants set personal goals and grow in confidence. Health and Wellbeing: Sessions addressing mental health, trauma, grief, and stress management, alongside awareness of the physical health consequences of violence. First aid basics and drug and alcohol awareness will also be included. Community and Peer Support: Creating safe spaces for dialogue, peer mentoring, and youth voice activities, enabling participants to contribute to community solutions and strengthen support networks. Through this project, young men will gain vital knowledge, practical life skills, and resilience, reducing their risk of involvement in knife crime. At the same time, the programme will build their confidence, connect them to health and support services, and open pathways into positive community roles. By tackling the root causes of violence and inequality, Lives Not Knives will contribute to safer, healthier, and more equitable outcomes for young people in Newham.

S Daniel1 year ago Our Chair-based Exercise classes started at Wordsworth Health Centre in September 2017. Due to its popularity we are applying for funds to continue improving the health and wellbeing of local adults by introducing an additional class.Classes are tailored to improve strength, mobility and endurance. If you’re recovering from injuries you may find this a safe way into fitness. Sessions are a blend of resistance training, mobility and cardiovascular work. For those that prefer to take things a little slower we even provide Qigong exercises to: develop breathing techniques, improve internal strength and focus. When you turn up all you have to do is wear comfortable clothing, maybe have a towel and bring water! We look forward to seeing you and receiving your votes!Project UpdateOur Chair-Based Fitness Project is continuing to make steady progress, with participation and enthusiasm growing week by week.We have now purchased chairs and small fitness equipment, which will soon be introduced into our sessions to provide participants with even more opportunities to develop their strength, mobility and overall fitness. We have also produced an accompanying fitness booklet, designed to support participants beyond the programme and encourage them to continue building healthy, active habits in their everyday lives.Participants are already making gradual improvements in their fitness, endurance and flexibility, with everyone encouraged to progress at their own pace. Our numbers are steadily growing, with new members joining each week, helping to create a friendly, welcoming and supportive group environment.A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support the project. Your support is helping us create opportunities for people to become more active, improve their wellbeing and build confidence through movement. The journey continues — one movement at a time.

Me Abul Ahmed1 year ago The project is to provide a Mural Project working with professional artists. There will be equipment’s and tools brought that can be used to provide in-house future project with the staff of the youth zone. The Mural Project will engage young people and our youth zone members in transforming an wall into a striking large-scale artwork that celebrates local identity and pride. Over 6 to 8 weeks, participants will work with professional artists and youth workers to design and paint the mural, gaining creative skills, teamwork experience, and confidence as they see their ideas come to life. Beyond beautifying the local area, the project will foster community engagement, provide young people with a safe and positive outlet for self-expression, and create a lasting legacy for the neighbourhood. At a time when the cost-of-living crisis limits access to enrichment activities, this project will offer young people and families free opportunities to be creative, connect with others, and build new skills. To celebrate their achievement, participants will take part in a three-day residential in the countryside. The residential will provide valuable team-building activities, chances to reflect on their journey, and opportunities to develop resilience, self-esteem, and stronger friendships — benefits many families could not otherwise afford. Together, the mural and the residential will leave both a physical and personal legacy, strengthening the community and empowering young people to thrive. The project will also support mental health and wellbeing by helping participants develop confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills. For young people, the workshops provide safe, positive activities at a time when many families cannot afford enrichment opportunities, helping them build aspirations and stay engaged in their community.

Kolsuma Miah1 year ago The SHADE Community Connections project will bring meaningful improvements to the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of residents across Newham. By offering free community-led activities in safe, familiar neighbourhood spaces, we will reduce isolation, increase access to preventative health services, and promote regular participation in physical activity. For young people, structured sports sessions like boxing and football will boost fitness, discipline, and confidence, while giving them a positive outlet. Adults and parents will benefit from stress-relief activities such as group fitness, wellbeing workshops and peer-support events. For elderly residents, weekly social events and gentle movement sessions will enhance mood, reduce loneliness, and improve quality of life. The project will also act as a signposting hub, connecting residents with local health services and professionals through pop-up advice stalls and drop-ins. This increases awareness of resources and encourages early help-seeking behaviour.

Ian Clark1 year ago A dual project of family yoga for parents and young children with a brief session afterwards on their emotional and physical health. This may involve mindfulness, nutrition (we all know certain blue varieties of certain sweets make some children hyper), game playing to improve concentration and awareness.Followed by a second yoga session specifically for teenagers who can be amongst their peers to grow in body and mind, away from their usual bustle and pressures. With a brief session afterwards on improving emotional and physical health, and possibly finding their place in the world. Each post yoga session will be different, focusing upon things that come up during the yoga sessions. Some topics may obviously recur or be expanded upon the following week.
